The Hole Story
Hole 8, The Flower Hole:
The longest par 3 on the course, Hole 8 is both a visual centerpiece and a test of precision. Playing to the largest green on the course—an impressive 8,200 square feet, it demands solid ball striking and thoughtful club selection.
Flag color and pin placement play major roles in determining strategy, as the green’s broad midsection swale divides it into distinct tiers. Approaches to the wrong level can leave long, breaking putts and make even a two-putt a challenge.
Surrounding the hole are the signature flower gardens that give this hole its name. These vibrant, circular plantings provide a striking contrast to the manicured fairway—but they also frame the challenge. For now, a free drop no closer to the hole is allowed if your ball lands within a flower bed, though once these plantings fully mature, they will be treated as a formal hazard.
Beautiful yet demanding, Hole 8 captures the artistry and precision that define The Mook’s unique character.
Naming the Hole

The Flower Hole
Inspired by the renowned Flower Hole at SentryWorld in Wisconsin, this hole reimagines what a par 3 can be—transforming a simple layout into an unforgettable visual and sensory experience.
Hundreds of hydrangeas now line the left side of the fairway along Alderbrook Road, interspersed with Mt. Fuji Cherry and Kwanza Cherry trees that bring striking color in spring and soft texture through summer and fall.
Around the number 8 green, four distinct “flower holes” frame the putting surface—each planted with a blend of ornamental grasses, Heuchera, and barberry. These vibrant displays create a tapestry of color and movement that changes with the seasons, adding both beauty and intrigue to the challenge.
The gardens will continue to evolve, with two additional flower holes planned for 2026—one near the front-right of the forward tee and another behind the green. Beyond the green, a thoughtful backdrop of purple hydrangeas, Japanese viburnum, and five varieties of flowering tulip magnolia trees completes the scene, blending horticultural artistry with the spirit of coastal Oregon.
This living design ensures that Hole 8 is more than a test of golf—it’s a celebration of color, texture, and the natural beauty that defines The Mook.
