The Hole Story
Hole 6: From the upper tee boxes framed by Pistachio Hydrangeas, this straightaway hole blends natural beauty with strategic precision. A well-struck tee shot that clears the fairway bunker will gain valuable forward roll, setting up a clean look into the green.
The front bunker guards the entrance, demanding a crisp and confident approach, while a right greenside bunker stands ready to catch any miss to that side. The green’s subtle slopes reward placement over power, emphasizing touch and accuracy.
Behind the green, a historic row of Port Orford Cedar trees provides a stately backdrop—linking this hole to the heritage and landscape that define The Mook. Together, the cedars and hydrangeas create one of the most picturesque and memorable settings on the course.
Naming the Hole

Pistachio Hydrangea
(Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Pistachio’)
The Pistachio Hydrangea is a vibrant reblooming variety that brings remarkable color to the course from late spring through fall. Its chartreuse-green blooms, brushed with soft pink edges, gradually deepen into violet-red tones as they mature—while retaining delicate green highlights that give the flower its signature pistachio hue. At the heart of each bloom, a small blue eye adds the perfect finishing touch to this colorful display.
Compact and fast-growing, this dwarf bigleaf hydrangea thrives in partial shade and is ideal for the cool, coastal conditions of Oregon. Its dense, rounded form and long-lasting blooms make it a standout among hydrangeas—offering visual energy and charm throughout the season.
You’ll find clusters of Pistachio Hydrangeas surrounding the tee box, complemented by other hydrangea varieties that frame the opening view. Their layered colors set a cheerful tone before the first swing is ever made.
