The Hole Story
Hole 16, Giant Sitka Spruce: Take in the view and let it fly! You’ll have to navigate 3 fairway bunkers in the landing area. A good approach shot will put you on this large, level green.
Naming the Hole
The Giant Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) is a majestic evergreen tree that graces the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest.
- Leaves: Needle-like, flattened, and sharp-tipped, blue-green in color, arranged spirally around the twig. The needles are about 1 inch long.
- Cones: Pendulous, cylindrical cones that are 2 to 4 inches long, with thin, flexible scales that have wavy edges.
- Height: One of the tallest conifer species, it can reach heights of up to 330 feet, with a trunk diameter of up to 16 feet.
- Bark: Thin, scaly, and grayish-brown, often developing a distinctive, flaky texture with age.
- Habitat: Prefers cool, moist environments, often found along coastal areas and river valleys. It thrives in well-drained, acidic soils and is commonly seen in USDA hardiness zones 7-9.
