The Hole Story
Hole 15 – Pacific Rhododendron
Known affectionately as “The Hill Hole” and often described as Oregon’s most unique golf hole, this short par 3 delivers as much challenge as it does character. Playing steeply uphill, it consistently plays longer than the yardage suggests, demanding a confident swing and precise club selection.
A shot that lands long will find the natural backstop behind the green, often rolling back toward the hole. Anything short, however, risks the unthinkable—rolling all the way back down the hill, sometimes even to the teeing area below. Accuracy and trajectory control are essential to mastering this deceptively short test.
Surrounding the green, the Pacific Rhododendrons provide a vivid splash of color each spring, framing the rise with their brilliant pink and magenta blooms. Together, the steep elevation, natural contours, and floral beauty make Hole 15 a one-of-a-kind experience—equal parts precision, patience, and awe.
Naming the Hole

Pacific Rhododendron
(Rhododendron macrophyllum)
The Pacific Rhododendron, also known as the Coast Rhododendron, is an iconic native shrub of the Pacific Northwest and the official state flower of Washington. Its presence along Hole 15 adds a distinctly regional beauty to the landscape, with vibrant blooms that echo the wild character of Oregon’s coastal forests.
This evergreen shrub bears large, leathery, elliptical leaves—dark green and glossy above, paler beneath—arranged in elegant spirals around its stems. In late spring to early summer, it bursts into clusters of bell-shaped flowers ranging from soft pink to deep rose-purple, each truss holding 10 to 20 blossoms that attract pollinators and enliven the surrounding hillsides.
The Pacific Rhododendron can grow from a dense shrub into a small tree up to 20 feet tall, thriving in moist, well-drained acidic soils and partial shade. Its smooth, reddish-brown bark, which becomes scaly and gray with age, provides texture and contrast year-round.
Both hardy and elegant, the Pacific Rhododendron perfectly complements the rugged rise of Hole 15, uniting color, resilience, and a sense of place in one unforgettable setting.
